Philanthropy and Partnerships

CWJ is a small charity doing vital, hard-to-fund work to hold the state to account for violence against women and girls. Support from individuals, trusts and foundations, and partners helps us keep going — and helps us respond quickly when there’s an urgent opportunity to push for change.

If you’d like to talk about any of the options below, please get in touch:

Thinking about making a larger gift? Thank you — it can make a real difference.

Major gifts help us to:

  • take on strategic legal work that drives wider change
  • plan ahead, not just survive month‑to‑month
  • move quickly when the moment matters

We welcome conversations with individuals and families interested in significant or multi‑year giving. Support can focus on core funding, strategic growth, specific projects, or long‑term impact — whatever feels right to you.

We're always happy to talk.

We work with organisations that share our values and want to support meaningful change.

Partnerships might include:

  • a donation or sponsorship
  • staff fundraising
  • pro bono support (where it's useful and aligned)

We'll always make sure any partnership is a good fit for CWJ and our mission.

If you're interested in exploring this, drop us a line and tell us a bit about your organisation and what you had in mind.

When a law firm has a remaining client fund that they are unable to pay to the client, the company is permitted to withdraw those funds and donate them to a charity of their choice. Your contribution will help support our work challenging discrimination in the justice system around male violence against women and girls.

You do not need SRA approval to transfer amounts which do not exceed £500, provided you have:

  • Made reasonable attempts to establish the identity of the money's owner
  • Made adequate attempts to return it to the rightful owner
  • Recorded the steps taken and kept all relevant documentation for at least six years
  • Kept a central register recording the owner's name, amount, recipient charity and date of payment
  • Kept all receipts from the charity and confirmation of any indemnity provided

You will require SRA authorisation before the money can be withdrawn from the client account. Additional guidance and the application form can be found here.

Making your donation

You need to provide a note or letter with any payment confirming you have complied with SRA requirements. On receipt, we will send you a letter of indemnity.
